Metal posts and saddlery thread scaffold a deer antler forcing the eye to bounce between the two, starkly different subjects. Owen Mortensen's new sculpture series, titled "Matenkah" (Shoshoni noun meaning complete or "everything included) visually explores connection and the inherent tension between modernity and the natural world.
I believe all things are connected, or linked... People and nature, our built environment and the land on which it sits. We are not complete as a human race unless we recognize our connection with our natural surroundings. -Owen
Each sculpture is made of a natural-shed deer antler, metal posts and saddlery thread.
